oops...t cutted my entire car :(

Hey Woots - I know you. All I can say is 'put the rotary polisher down and step away' ....

Seriously you can do a lot of damage with a rotary, especially on the sharp edges and corners. Random orbitals are a lot safer, but I'd not get my first practice on a car that means so much to you.

Just remember any damage is already done (and it's only going to be scratches int he clearcoat) so take your time to decide what to do and how. More damage is usually done with ill advised restoration than the original error.

I'm with Phil.

It's worth rembering there's still a week or two left of the Scrappage scheme, cut your losses I reckon. :poke:

As has been said. wash it again and clay it.

A light shower hit me when the car was covered in SRP and it left a load of ring marks where the drops had hit it and all was OK after another wash.

Although i think T-Cut is a little more abrasive. if youre lucky you might just have gotten away with it.

Give the car a good wash, then you need to use a polish with a very mild cutting action, this stuff is ideal linky, it will leave a great finish even using it by hand. The polish in that link is an ideal all purpose polish for those of you not really into detailing.

To echo some of the comments above, it's a job for a polishing machine and some mild cutting agent - what SLK Drivr suggested sounds good to me. But, given that you mistook T-cut for polish I'd suggest leaving it for someone else to do

Don't worry, it's perfectly salvegable (sp?).

...You do have to be a complete nugget to mess paint up with them.
Kind of like the person that would T-Cut their entire car :poke:

Sorry Woots

Ha ha, touche  Good point.

How on earth did someone wreck a whole car with a rotary? Surely you'd stop after you balls'd the first bit up?!?!?! Still, I know someone who took an angle grinder to their car with a polishing mop because "it looked like my polisher" He missed the bit where it said 15000RPM on it  Tit.

If you're not confident, use SRP. People will tell you to use all manner of cutting compounds etc, but seriously, SRP is the daddy as far as by-hand scratch removal goes. Its underrated by far too many people.

Should you need evidence, check out Dave's post over on detailing world:

If you'd met Woots - you would not recommend him to go anywhere near his car with anything other than the keys to drive it.
He has a eye for the ladies and it's a wonder he can drive in a built up area
I only say this as I'm sooooo jealous that at his age he has a bird magnet and looks to go with it. Shame his wheels are so small though.

heard that's the story with most of the "lookers".. got the looks, but they just don't have enough inches to cover with rubber.

With that in mind. Give it to someone else - let them do it. :P

Wheels? I thought it was on a diddy set of winter tyres :poke:

Now Now guys, jealousy rearing up a little. We all looked like Brad Pitt when we were his age, now we have to live vicariously through his exploits.

But don't let him near the car with a power tool :P :P CJ, keep a stick handy to beat him with if he gets too close.... :D :D

Speak for yourself, I've not lost my good looks...

Although that's probably because I never found them in the first place :D :(

lol Im getting better with age, i've swapped the medium size stick to beat them off with to a telescopic james bond item....
Might have something to do with the 'M' badges tho :poke:
Oh sorry, wrong sub-forum :P

EDIT : Woots, try some SRP by hand first, if you do the whole car you'll have muscles to match the boat-race

I've had to tone my looks down with age in the hope of being able to move around and drive without getting mobbed and pulled by good looking women. Seems to be working too well

:worthless:

The other option: Get some beer in and we will pop over and sort it out for you. You have to invite the girls however

How true, Woots - Get the BBQ and women in, I'll show you how to fix it with my Kestral DA + Menzerna pads + polish, once your up to speed I'll take care of the women, Ben can sort the BBQ.

Just a quick question, was the car machined or by hand with the T-Cut? Also was it the Metallic one or standard T-Cut?

Not really much help but im Baised in leicester and if you wanted to pop around ill take some paint thickness readings and machine a couple of panels to see what can be safely done.

My advice like others if get a pro in. If you dont want the inside sorting or other bits they may drop the price a little. you would still be looking £250-£300 my guess.

I would say if done by hand you should be fine with the clear coat thickness. Can you see any deep marks or lots of fine swirls?

Cheers

PaulN

So without him knowning looks like theres a party at Woots.

Ps. Where abouts in leicester are you? Not seen 07 Black Z4 round here?
