Only one key

I was asking about this topic back in my e86 days but the only downside with our new to us e89 is it only came with one key sadly, so we don't fancy sending off the one we have to get another cloned key so I'm guessing it's either drive to our local BMW dealer and feel some expensive pain or drive to a BMW key specialist as I'm thinking maybe key and car need to be programmed together? And tips would be most welcome.

There are mobile companies that will come out to you. Search for BMW key programming on Facebook Marketplace. In the meantime, get some form of tracker for the key you have.

& be prepared for the price. You should be able to get a blank remote key from eBay (or similar) - but programming / blade cutting will be a pretty penny.

I've heard dealership charge is something in the region of £300 - £400

My previous Z4 only came with one key, but I got a new one cut and coded by a forum member in Merseyside who has since been removed from the forum.

I've not used them, but I've read positive things about the Master Locksmith who can offer a mobile service.

Thanks for your information, I think we're just bite the bullet and go to our local dealer, the quoted £240 all in, which is not great but we definitely need a spare key.
