Do we know if the vanos filter needs changing on ours?
As mines going to Bmw Tuesday n could get it done

Yeah it's just the bolt on end of vanos I saw link by dinan

Just thought whilst there;)

I had relevant Beisan upgrades done in January as a precautionary measure. I know of one other Forum member that had it done, too.

even with my Vanos being perfect imo this needs doing ASAP. i need to get one ordered and put on.... will do it in my garage myself, if i lock the cams i THINK i don't need to do the bits id struggle with.

yeah me to mate, mine is way over due.. ill probably order the bits from Dr. Vanos. and may get the uprated pump disc too. what did you have in mind Bee?

i wanted to do the re drilled pump disc, New vanos hub bolts, uprated solenoids, etc etc but as a minimum the pump disc the sheers off the tabs

I had the besian parts fitted about a year ago including re drilled disc and solenoid. Parts supplied by back engineering (very reasonable and reliable and based in the uk). All done by cpc engineering. The anti rattle kit is great, reduces the annoying rattle at 3k rpm. Also had the 'vanos bolts' replaced, all this was for piece of mind. Phil at cpc knows his stuff for anyone looking for someone to do this (albeit difficult to get hold of at times).

Will check where CPC are based.

So what's the definitive list of instruments ?

drilled pump disc,
New vanos hub bolts,
uprated solenoids,
Vanos filter

Anything else ?

I'm with you guys all the way here - I looked at the complexity and potential failures and decided to get Mr Vanos to come and do mine for me to future proof my engine - in fairness, it all looked pretty ok in there, but now it's got uprated parts and a 2 year warranty, that's piece of mind... :driving:

Looking at the (excellent) guide on the other forum, it's doable DIY so long as you have patience and are super methodical!!

Ugh. I used to have a S50 and naively assumed BMW would have done something about the 'made of butter' components by now. Never mind, one more thing to add to the stress list!

Snap, had an s50. You can at least sleep easier insofar as they updated the bolts by the last s54 engine builds took place but - for peace of mind - redrilled pump disc is not a bad idea.
