Got into work last night to an announcement that our team is being offshored. Mainframe ops in the next two months going to India and my specific area to Bulgaria between Aug & Oct. So, 5 months of employment left if I'm lucky :( No chance of redeployment as there's a big headcount reduction going on across the rest of the account in the UK as well. Sucks royally.

It's kind of forced my hand on selling the Z which is the biggest shame.

that sucks, but i do know of a few people, and theres example on this forum, where redundancy has lead to better things. hope the same applies for you!

Cheers guys. I'm sure it'll all work out, people go through far worse every day. It just came as a bit of an unpleasant surprise really.

Sorry to hear your news  Do you work for Aviva by any chance?

No, I used to a few years back but got TUPE'd across to HP/EDS who I left in 2010, got offered a job back with in 2011 and am now set to be leaving again in the near future.

Although I just had a chat with my manager and there's a glimmer of hope that there may be something about, possibly, come Oct. Given the state of IT across the UK, let alone Norfolk, I'd rather hang on if I can :)

Sorry to hear this.

I work in IT Support for the NHS and was in a PCT which was abolished at the end of April. New organisation.....we've been told they will leave us alone for 3 months, then review the whole IT Support strategy! Our main risk is that they outsource it.

It really annoys me how these things happen....you turn up for work to news like that!

Hope things work out for you.

That's really crap

You've at least had some warning though, so hopefully something else will come up internally - but you have the time to look outside too. You never know, could be the best thing that happened to you by November...

As above terrible news buddy. But hopefully you will have time to sort something out. Fingers crossed it turnes out positive in the end

Sorry to hear that.

I was made redundant last year. Now have a new life in Edinburgh - and much happier for it.

Chin up. You've got 5 months to get yourself a pay rise working somewhere else :)

s**t news, can always sympathise with stuff like this.

Just been let go from my latest job on Monday for having a day off sick

Had nothing to do with arguing with the foreman the week before though, then the same tw*t coming to the conclusion because 3 of us never turned in on Monday we must have all been on the piss the night before :|

3 sacked and 1 quit all in 1 day, of 6 welders they lost 4 in one day.

Onwards and upwards, halved my wage going there to spend time at home with girlfriend etc. 3 job offers to choose from in 1 day all back on a better wage.

I honestly believe there is always a better job out there, you just never see it while you are still working

That's good advice and very true, hope you get sorted soon.
Thing is, they will probably be looking for 'consultancy' to sort out the mess in Bulgaria before long...
