Don't know if any of you caught this, but yesterday Samsung started paying it's 1 billion dollar fine to Apple, by sending a delivery of 30 trucks filled with 5 cent coins. They hope to have completed delivery by the end of the week. :driving:

I love this sort of thing - especially if it's annoying big corporations.

Awwwwww it appears it is a hoax..... boooooo

Disappointed now :( 'coz it was a genius idea. I did wonder where they would get all those nickels from though.

I saw this somewhere before and someone did the math as to how many trucks it would take to actually carry the required amount of nickels. The number of truck that would be required was in the thousands as I recall...

Don't get why this (if it had been true) would be genius? Surely its just continuing the petty war between the two companies, and if they'd been more mature in the first place they would've probably come to a decent resolution ages ago, and not spent nearly as much money on this.

Whatever the size of the fine, and whoever has to pay it, the only winners are the legal teams!

There is certainly a law in this country about the maximum transaction that can be completed using coinage.

Very true. As a cashier at a bank in my early days I often refused things being paid in large amounts of coin, where it was not a client paying in takings, etc.

Coins:

Coins are legal tender throughout the United Kingdom for the following amount:

£5 (Crown) - for any amount

£2 - for any amount

£1 - for any amount

50p - for any amount not exceeding £10

25p (Crown) - for any amount not exceeding £10

20p - for any amount not exceeding £10

10p - for any amount not exceeding £5

5p - for any amount not exceeding £5

2p - for any amount not exceeding 20p

1p - for any amount not exceeding 20p

Sadly such stories are always hoaxes simply due to logistics. Where would you even find that much coin for instance...
Paying a cheque on a cow or paving slad is legal if both parties accept, but nobody will process it...
