One for PVR - Football

Ok so England are playing football this week and just seen it advertised on TV. It's

England vs Holland

PVR has always told me this is incorrect and should be Netherlands.....but I've always been brought up with Holland and ITV think the same!!
 
So ITV couldn't be bothered to get it right, so it must be right?

The official name is the Netherlands International Football team or Het Nederlands Elftal for PVR. They are controlled by the Royal Netherlands Football Association, hence the KNVB on the shirts.

I think everyone makes the mistake of calling them 'holland' at some point. Technically if you want to call them anything it would be Dutch.

Still stands that it's England Vs Netherlands that's happening. Just like any other nation, if your team was referred to incorrectly I'm sure you'd be happy to correct people.
 
Reminds me of transiting through schiphol airport, on my way to a job in Curacao. 13 Oct 1993. The place was a sea of Happy, cheering orange folk. I just kept walking. :oops:
 
Perry, that vid was excellent and explained it very well.
I never knew it was made up of different states and thought at some point it was just renamed like Istanbul used to be Constantinople.

The only thing that was renamed was New Amsterdam, where I am now :lol:
