One disasterous expensive evening in the life of a Z4 owner

Let the rant begin.

It all began at 7 o'clock last Weds. I missed my train to London and worked out I wouldn't get to my hotel till 1am.

Bright idea ......... let's jump in the car stick on Sat Nav and a choice selection of Cd's in the changer. 2 1/2 hours there or there abouts.

Jumped into the car got set up. Pulled up to the first set of lights and BANG. Some girl in a Mini drove straight into the back of me. We pulled over to assess the damage. I got out of the car and a lens fell out of my glasses. Proceeded to the back of the car and (glassesless) I couldn't see any damage. Didn't exchange details due to this and we went our separate ways.

Proceeded to destination. Flew along the (comparatively) dead M4 without a care blasting out a choice mix of The Who, Stone Roses and a bit of Hendrix. Until I got to Reading when the sat nav decided to lose it's bearings and guide me North through the fields of Oxford. By the time I got to the M25 save nav made out I was in Kettering !!!!

Found location on my iPhone from M25 to Watford. Then ..... Down to 1 lane. 1 1/2 hours later I left the M25. Battery on iPhone died. An hour later (after asking 2 drunks in Watford for directions to the hotel) I arrived (note later than if I had caught the train).

Checked in.......no parking left but for a very tight spot on the hotel front. Reversed in but failed to notice a small chunk of raised curb with a pothole in front of it. BANG ....... Grounded the car. SCRAPE.......as I pulled forward. Landed up driving the car into said space with half of the car on the pavement.

Following day I came out to assess the damage. A 6 inch curbing to my front left alloy :-(. Further, some scrote had pinched my stubby !!!!!

To make matters worse, 3 days later I got home my fiancée looked at the rear of the car and pointed to a huge crack in the paint on the bumper (just to the right side of the reg plate). On closer inspection the are also 2 small dents in the plastic. How I didn't see it at the time I will never know. I blamed the loss of lens in my glasses (my other half is convinced the person that hit me was a leggy blonde with fluttery eyelashes).

In summary :-

Rail journey - free

Z4 journey - £60 fuel, est £70 alloy referb, est £200 bumper mend/respray, new stubby a fiver.

Still love the car though ...........

Jesus, I thought I was unlucky :) That is a seriously bad day!

What was the leggy blonde like? :poke:

Disaster is not the word. I have contacted my insurance and they said if I could get a CCTV image of the car and reg they could pursue a claim. Had a scout around this morn briefly and the is one at the location. Didn't think this was possible as I had dismissed any issue at the time.

Has anyone one here used chipsaway?

Stubbies ordered and Flimper - she was a leggy brunette. If I can get CCTV image I will post it on here lol

Justice must be served to the person who stole that stubby. Sorry about the other stuff, had a similar affair myself a few days ago.

Some days you should just stay in bed. Still not all bad news at least the stubby has gone and you can get a proper antennae now. :D

Has anyone one here used chipsaway?

yes and the operative was very good. However he was recommended by a neighbour .I think in reality there are good and bad ....try to get a personal recommendation............

I just wonder how you couldn't see the damage, without your glasses, but managed to use your iPhone to program the route :?

Sorry to hear about your bad day.

I've used Chipsaway (Chesterfield), they did an amazing job, but as has already been mentioned, it is a franchise and will be dependent upon the local operative.

A reputable body shop in Cardiff has recommended a specific Chips Away operator to use. I just wondered if their process is any good on alloys.

I guess they could have a look at the bumper too.

Cheers

Gookah - luckily I had my contacts packed so had to fumble them in in the car park. Blind driving to London would be an experience I would rather miss out on !!!!!
