On the lookout for a coupe

Before I start babbling around the forum I thought I would just do a quick intro post. I have been saving for a fun car for years, not been made easy by being a near constant student for most of my 20's. Having been used to student living has meant getting a decent job has allowed me to save and get through the sensible house buying stage of life. Now the other half and myself have agreed its finally time to get the fun car (I have previoulsy almost got the mx5, then s2000 but it all went on the house).

Im looking for a Blue coupe (preferably Monaco blue) however I am starting to wonder if I should buy a good condition car almost regardless of colour as they seem to come up for sale so rarely. Would ideally like bluetooth and cruise but would have to have heated seats and parking sensors (for the SO honest!)

Il be sure to post pics and a write up once I find the right car.
 
Cruise is easy to retrofit for under £100, the other items not so easy. As you say fairly rare all round so you maybe have to compromise. PDC is a waste really, only on the back when you need it on the front more.
 
Welcome. That's a good colour on the Coupe. Don't rush, enjoy your search & get the car you want. :thumbsup:

Hi OP, we exchanged a few messages before I think - I remember because of the pdc requirement!

Blues do look good on a Z4C - probably slightly less of a bugger to keep clean than any shade of black!

Thanks for all the replies. I am in Oxford and am fine to travel. If I decide to keep my current car instead of part exchanging I am probably going to put off buying for a few months.

Do many people here cope with a Z4C as their only car? Bear in mind that as I am cycling distance from work and town I rarely drive so its not mileage that could be an issue, just practicality.

Hi Mr Tidy, we talked a couple of times on PH and I met you at the Honda Sunday Service a few months ago (we talked about the problems split rims can cause after my Dads issues with his W8 wheels). hope everything is well.
 
Good time to buy a coupe - just on this forum there are 3-4 really nice examples at the moment. This one is stunning, for example.

Wouldn't worry about a Z4 as your only car - they are surprisingly practical. Decent mpg, comfort, reliability, boot space for a week-long road trip, easy to self-service etc. Plus the roadster can carry 2.5m timbers with the roof down. The only issue I've have is that when more than one person needs a lift I have to admit to having bought a stupid car with only two seats. :o

Do you have more details or a link to a thread? I'd love to have CC fitted but I've phoned 3 BMW garages - 2 said they can't do it and 1 said it would cost £500 :o

Ive looked into it. You just buy the stalk and wireing and fit yourself. Involves some cutting in the plastic behing the steering wheel. Thats whats put me off tbh.
 
Yes BMW are robbing b**t***s. You can still get the complete kit including the pre-cut lower cowling but it takes some searching. I bought mine from a company in Germany for about E180. BMW quoted me £328 to fit it as it required an hour to fit and a hour to code. There is no coding required for an E86 ! I almost did it myself (I'm an electronics engineer) but bottled out and took it to an auto-electrician who took an hour at most to fit it. Simples ! As mentioned previously if you are brave you can cut your existing cowl.
