On the lookout for a 3.0 £6k region...

Evening All, I've been regularly checking here, pistonheads and autotrader and will continue to do so but with two crackers still managing to be snapped up before I had a chance to even see them I just wanted to put this ad up on here on the off chance of hearing about suitable zeds before they hit the big websites! :)

Looking for a 3.0 probably 2003 with my budget, in good condition, but not necessarily pristine if price reflects this, mileage I'm not too concerned about again as long as high milers are at a reasonable price.

*Must be manual,
*Colour, preferably Grey but possibly silver, red, or possibly others. But not black as I wont keep it clean enough!
*Heated, red M sport seats are something I would really like but can imagine could make my search take a lot longer..black would be fine!

Other than that I'm open to suggestions, perfect car would be from a forum member, have m front bumper, csls, xenons, M steering wheel and be de tangoed!! Not much of an ask is it? I blame the forum, before finding it I had in my mind I'd like to find a simple low spec example and go with that.

For the right car with the perfect spec I may be able to find some more £££ but time will tell... If any of you can point me towards anything or can tip me off of cars that may be coming up over the next few months, or even further into the future (but I think I may get frustrated by the end of the summer!) I'd really appreciate it. Thanks. Liam

Good choice of motor Liam with the 3-0 & you have tapped into the best resource for finding a good one , maybe not the cheapest but generally folks on here look after their car's like pets
If you could just stretch to £8k there is a terrific facelift PY for sale :driving:

All sounds good. You won't find M seats on a 2003 zed though.... only an option from 2004 onwards.

Good luck with your search

For £6K, your after a lot and the very best of luck with the quest..

All I'll say, is don't give up yet..
Come the Spring, a few might pop up, with your Spec' or most of it..

I got mine for 6k from a garage all the toys I wanted. 108s now gone. Black heated leather. Sat nav auto lights and other stuff I didn't really know about or care that much for. I still don't know what radio I have??? It's loud enough for me :D

What you have decided to look for is exactly what I was after. I got what you want or your budget they are out there. Mine had 60k when I got it. I have done a few mods but the one I really want now is to ditch the run flats. Try and keep that in you budget.

I got my 04 with all the toys from a dealer for a few quid above your budget, but had to go to Wigan for it. And replace the tyres, the rims, the springs, the bushes...

snnymes car is a good looking car and its a great price. But it a 2.5l not a 3.0l. Depends what your after not sure what the performance difference are? I doubt its much? I didn't get a 2.5 as they have a 5 speed box as i wanted a 6. But at that price and colour i would have been very tempted.

Your budget will never buy a car with everything on your wishlist (happy to be proved wrong!) but should get you a very decent car. My stunning 03 with 60k is up for sale in the next couple of weeks (just need to repair the passenger window regulator) and has de-tangoed Xenons, sat nav, M-Sport steering wheel and black M-Sport seats. In other words, rocking horse poo spec for an 03! With a fresh BMW service and 4 brand new Goodyear tyres, it will be over £6k though...

Thanks for all your comments, was particularly interested to hear that m seats weren't even an option until 2004.
Had a couple of interesting pm's which if nothing else has made me feel encouraged I will get something close to what I hope for.
I appreciate my list is a bit ambitious but it's probably more a spec I hope to end with after modding in a couple of years. For the right car I would appreciate I would have to stretch my budget.

Would you expect more zeds available for sale as spring progresses??

Yes, I would strongly suggest that, come the Spring and the pending positve change in the weather (one hopes!!) too, that the odd Z4 owner will come out of the closet and place a 4Sale Ad', on here; PH; or Autotrader etc..
The only downfall being, that prices will potentially creep, upwards too. As they have been stagnant to a certain extent over the winter, as per normal TBH..

I'm sure, you will find what your looking for..
However, the £6k region, might well have to be breached major'ly, to achieve the Spec' your after...

Where abouts are you in the country? Just put mine up for sale on Pistonheads (posted on here a few weeks back but didn't get much interest initially):

Located on Hants/Surrey boarder if you're interested.

Good luck with your search mate - my only advice is to be patient until the right one comes along - for an early car , imho , condition and mileage is the most important. Spec and colour will probably have to be compromised ( unless you're lucky ) but not the engine !
There are quite a few high milers around that look a bargain and you may find one that doesn't turn in to a money pit , but with these cars everything else as well as the engine has done the same mileage and with BMW costs it will soon clock up any difference in price and you'll end up paying as much if not more than you would have paid for a lower mileage model. Basic things like tyres can cost £800 if they need replacing soon after you've bought the car - insist on a new MOT and factor in any advisories that may crop up. Service history is essential to determine what needs doing .

I love red cars but red early 3.0's are as rare as hens' teeth ( unless you count merlot red ) I settled for sterling grey !

Again good luck - it will be all worth it when you find the "one "

I've just put mine up for sale on Pistonheads, and here. It may be what you are looking for. A Hardtop and stand is available with it too.

Cheers,

Marcus.

Would you consider a 3.0 z3?? Lots of car for the money - this one has heated sports seats (same as a z3m) and is very well kept. You could buy it for a little over half your budget and late model z3s are stabilising in price, where z4s are still in freefall!

This used to be my wifes and I sold it to a mate a couple of years ago. It's well maintained with lots of history and is only for sale due to a growing family.

Let me know if you (or anyone else) is keen! There is a deal to be done!

I will be selling mine soon. (1st May)

Gunmetal 3.0l SE. 2003 with 80k. Will be giving it a service soon and replacing pads etc as well 4 wheel alignment.

Has black memory leather seats, auto mirror, auto lights, cruise control, ipod connectivity, and auto roof module.

:)

I wouldn't totally disregard a z3 but am quite set on a z4, I wouldn't agree that the 4's are in free fall at all I've been looking a lot at prices and back through the archive on here and a similar specced good condition same mileage seem pretty stable on price even over 12 months. After being interested in short fuses M on here have been thinking more towards and looking at M's as I won't be doing a lot of miles and may not get a chance to own one again. Liam
