On the log book?

Just a quick question.

This this might sound daft but does it state on a coupe's log book if it's an SI SE or a SI Sport?

While getting a temporary insurance quote for this E86 SPORT I'm looking at she named it as an SE. He assures me it's a sport and it has everything a Sport generally comes with but admitted his insurance quotes it as an SE so......surely its an SE?

I had an SI SPORT coupe. However on the logbook it simply said SI Coupe. When entering the reg for insurance quotes and HPI check it can up as an SI SE. BMW confirmed from their records that it was definitely a SPORT. I then did random checks with many SPORT coupe number plates on confused.com and a fair few came up as SI SE. Ultimately this is down to the dealer when registering the motor.

I wouldn't treat what it says on the V5 as gospel!

If you want to be sure what it was built as try ones of these VIN decoders:- https://www.bing.com/search?q=bmw+vin+decoder&form=EDGTCT&qs=HS&cvid=b87b983b4e2c4d3ba5691c83f48d9e79&refig=89b8dbd9422d4feba45e8d53a545b9a5&cc=GB&setlang=en-US&plvar=0&PC=DCTS

That's extremely helpful nice one! And has saved me from doing that exact same thing in getting quotes on other Sport's to see the outcome.

when I see the car I might give this a try, cheers.

Just checked my V5C. Confirms SPORT on mine.
Thanks for checking. It would be interesting to find out how many specify exactly on the log book if it's an SI SE or a SI Sport or just says SI even when it is actually a sport.

Most of them only need the last 7 characters of the VIN - for an E86 it'll be "LF" then 5 digits.

What doesn't help is that all the Sport features were options on an SE. :?

I think the differences were M-Sport seats instead of Sport seats, M-Sport steering wheel (thicker rim and an M badge on it), stiffer and 15mm lower suspension, an anthracite headlining and MV2 wheels, although quite a few Sports had the optional 108 split-rims. Then again now they are all getting older plenty of SE and Sport models probably aren't on their original wheels!

Both of mine actually did say "SI Sport" on the V5, but if I found an SE with all the right bits on it I wouldn't let that put me off.

Anyway, I hope the viewing goes well.

Hello Mike, Did you end up buying a car?

Sure Did!! Absolutely made up with it, only problem now is I can't drive it until I sell my MR2.

Was an absolute pain to get up there as my only day off was a Monday so I couldn't get a lift off anyone. Ended up getting a one way hire car from Liverpool airport as they're open on a Sunday (I live on the Wirral), and set off to Newcastle at 0445 Monday morning to go and have a look.

Luckily for me it was what I was hoping for and the gamble paid off. The benefit of going over 3.5hrs to buy a car meant I had plenty of time to enjoy the drive back :driving:

Great news Mike, and welcome to Coupe ownership.

It sounds like you've already caught the Z4 bug!

Yep!

And I'm already looking at what wheels I'd like to replace my 108's with as they're all pretty corroded.

Really like how the E89's 326 wheels look on the coupe but they'll have to be a used set as I've been haemorrhaging money on cars recently!

Hoping some might crop up on here.

My 108s were still pretty tidy, but I wanted to replace them before they needed a refurb as that can get expensive with split rims!

I ended up getting a set of 295s from a forum member - they're staggered 18" E89 wheels, so the different offset makes them sit further out in the arches.

But if you want 19s then E89 230 wheels have the same 5-spoke style. 326s look great but they do seem prone to cracking, although that may just be when they are run with run-flat tyres.

Happy hunting.

Thanks for the heads up on those 326's, I'll bear that in mind. I also like a diamond cut face wheel with a black inside so I'll see what crops up.

Could be a while before I get it on the road but would be nice to have a new set of wheels ready and waiting.
