On the hunt for a Z4!

Hello all, I've been lurking for a few weeks now but am looking to buy a 3.0si roadster with a budget of around £9-10k I'm part exing my 2014 ibiza fr edition as well, I used to do more miles so bought that and have hardly used it!
Looked at one from a dealer today just under 50 thousand miles had the engine replaced by BMW under warranty in 2014 at a cost of 9grand (crankshaft failure) so the engine only has around 5000 miles on it Should this ring alarm bells?
Also traction control and abs light were on from reading forums thinking this could be ABS pump failure? Dealer sending it to garage tomorrow but I won't put a deposit down until diagnosed and fixed.
Car seems really nice otherwise!
Hopefully I'll be in a zed soon!

Hi and welcome. You have already made one good decision - to get a roadster. You must be doing the right thing to get the warning lights sorted as that seems to be a bit of a trend on here. Others are much better qualified than me to comment on replacement engines, but I would be wondering if crankshaft failure could be a consequence of hard driving and/or poor maintenance.

Hope it all checks out and you get what you want. Don't forget pics immediately (Max 2 hours) after purchase!

Thanks it's got full bmw service history I wonder if that's why they replaced the engine as some kind of good will gesture!

I'm no expert but BMW would not have replaced an engine under warranty if they could prove neglect in any way.
Probably unlucky Friday afternoon engine.
New one from BMW with 5k would be a plus for me. But JMO

Good luck with your search

Welcome aboard :)

Not sure if you would consider buying privately but this one's worth a look:

Thanks for all the replies guys!
That car does look very nice but it's probabaly a little far away from me showing 130 miles on autotrader but I'll Pm the seller and find out.

Many guys on here have travelled over double that distance for the right car. Well spec'd low mileage si's are worth travelling for  :driving:

Problem is I've got my car to part ex.. The car buying services are offering super low values so a part ex is the only way I can sell quickly.
Dealer just rang me it is the ABS pump that failed, he is getting it sent to BBA reman and a refurbished one returned, hopefully that will solve it!
