On the ? day of Christmas my Gov gave to me

My fear is whilst the progress of booster jabs is going well I just think Boris has been relying on it too much instead of promoting alongside it more stricter measures alot sooner i.e. keeping the social distancing, there's been too much social mixing too soon, mandatory wearing of masks everywhere, its crazy you have to wear masks in certain situations yet not others, result is it's all gone too lax too soon, result virus spreading like wildfire again. I'd rather we'd gone into lockdown beginning of last week when the last lot of half hearted measures were announced, if it means going into the the new year in a better situation with more of the population vaccinated. Having said that as long a people refuse the vaccine I can see this just dragging on and on. Of course then the risk of more serious variants will always be looming whilst poorer countries lag behind with the lack of vaccine.

Tim.

Thought we weren't allowed to talk about the 'C' word anymore.
If we are , me and the Missus had our boosters yesterday (Pfizer) and we are both aching like feck today, apparently to protect the unvaccinated. I think we have to book our fourth dose by Friday, then every two weeks for eternity

The UK now lead the world in two things:
Snooker and Covid! Every cloud, eh? :|

I think the only hope we have is that there will be new variants and that eventually they will be more contagious but a lot less deadly. There’s no way as a world we can vaccinate our way out of this completely.

It (may) seem that is likely. The problem is when 10% of the population have it at the same time and have to 'self isolate', it will cripple our services, manufacturing and way of life. Just watch the prices of everything soar when hundreds of thousands of people are off work at the same time. So much for the Gov's attitude of keeping the economy going come-what-may.
Lockdowns don't work; they just delay the inevitable (in this Country at least) for the Health system to re-group.
We shall see; but one glimmer of hope: I have seen a lot less activity everywhere in the last week so maybe, just maybe the great British public have finally learned their lessons. Official Covid cases are actually less than yesterday. Not by much but I wasn't expecting that.

It’s already here and called Omicron. Perhaps the way it’s spreading we may even find that mythical beast, herd immunity :poke:

Don’t worry, us Europeans will keep the economy going as we are the only ones allowed to go back and forth to the UK

herd immunity
Herd Immunity is soooo 2020. :)
We have a quarter of our population having contracted it and we are way off herd immunity. With an ever evolving virus, don't see how herd immunity can be feasible. Also the vaccine must interfere with this concept, as we are 'forcing' it.

What's the 10% figure?
Anyone and everyone who gets infected has to self isolate so that's 100% of the population.

I suspect its ore than a quarter and with the antibodies / tcells provided by the vaccinations the percentages with some level of protection must be in excess of 90%
