Olympics opening ceremony

Liking the cauldron a lot, very symbolic

Am feckin' knackered now though

Great show :D

Very nice. I was wondering what all the little copper thingies that were being carried in by kiddies with each country's team were. Very clever.

Just read online that the Americans won't have seen it yet as NBC decided to not screen it live and delay showing it for 3.5 hours!!!!

Bit silly - half of them will have watched it on the 'net...

Perhaps they wanted to have the opportunity to discretely edit ads for Coca Cola, UPS and McDs into the proceedings

Really enjoyed the first hour

Was expecting the 007/Queen parachute stunt to continue until they landed and then went up towards the royal box where a switch would occur :P

Next two hours of the parade were dull and was really tempted to switch off/over to stave nodding off :coffee:

Final half hour was okay - and loved the cauldron - although I guess that will have to be moved before the field events get underway :heat:

Only disappointments were when Ali's carer tried but failed to talk him into doing anything (and it being easy to see what she was saying/shouting at him - and then saying something to the controller about him not doing it), and seeing the empty seats (guesstimate about 20%) despite the commentators saying there was a full capacity 80,000 crowd

The strange one for me was the german politician? Doing the nazi salute when the German team came out

The Nazi salute is actually a Roman salute that was taken on board by Hitler - and ALWAYS uses the right arm.

If you actually watched the un-trimmed footage you will see he simply continues the 'salute' into a waving motion.

Even if the footage was untrimmed, as he uses his left arm, it's not actually a Nazi/Roman salute at all - but why bother letting that get in the way of a Mirror story :poke:
