Old Style Sat Nav?

Recently I went to Hexagon BMW to look at their amazing collection of Z8's and in their used car section they head a German Z4, instead of the usual CD player this car seemed to have a CD Player with a tiny screen located within the console on the left hand side. As it was a Sunday there was no one who could really help, so I was wondering if anybody knows what this is? It was OEM because it had BMW located in the left top hand corner, is this a TV option and if so can it be retrofitted?
 
That was an option in the UK as well. Only ever seen 1 car with this, bit useless really with the arrow instructions. Most people spent the additional and get the "real" deal.
 
'Business' Navigation....available on E46/E39/Z4/Z8 etc etc...cheaper than 'Professional' Nav but basic and still about £1000 so rarely ordered

Which is what I still use to plan my weekend 'blasts'.
 
I've got that "boggo basic" nav in mine. it's simple but tbh, does a decent job.Turn by turn only, but effective and neat.
 
Thanks for this, I remember seeing a post where someone cut a whole in their dash to retrofit the "professional" do you think it would be a better option that possibly doing a piss poor job??
 
One of those someone's was me :)

Not difficult to cut a hole, just time consuming to make sure it is right. I have done two of those, no problems.
 
I remember and thought that you did a really good job, problem is I have never been good at things like that and so would do a piss poor job, I can see it now, just walking away from it because I cut the hole 2 mm to big and the sat nav not sitting straight - Brilliant!
 
Start small and make bigger, small bit a time, then fit, remove etc. Took me long enough but it won't go wrong that way.
 
I don't see the point... if your going to pay that much for a sat nav then why not pay a little more and get the proper one. It's like buying a Z4, but just getting the 2.0 version! :poke:
