Old school rallying

That's quite a moment. . .

About 2.06 in - fast entry at the end of a wall, car sideways and has to hit centre to cross the cattle grid/gate. . .brilliant.

:driving:

Superb stuff - I remember those days well, stood out on Grizedale or wherever covered in crap, both me and the cameras, shooting for mags. Happy daze

Great stuff - Car interiors look a bit different now!
Those were the days, like Dewi I remember Grizedale well
From the late 70's to mid 90's we used to marshall on the stages - some great memories of the 'flying Finns', early quattro's, Lancia cars with Martini livery, ',Colin Mcrae, Richard Burns, group B cars :D
I think part of that time it was known as the Lombard RAC rally. In those days it was virtually a country wide route over 4-5 days with day/night stages. Not the curtailed sterilised event it is now - down to costs I guess

Me too, I remember being a spectator and following the Rally through Kielder and the Lakes in my mates GT6.

At night in Kielder it was striking how you could hear that the leaders were flat out on the straights whereas those that came a few cars later were on off and backing off on the same sections - guess that's why they were in the lead - amazing stuff.

my old school Rally story was for the 1991 Rally- got an Invite to Marshall at Chester for the Sunday Evening after the spectator stages around the classic spectator stages - Chatsworth, Trentham etc... arrived in Chester presented ourselves at Rally HQ at the Queens hotel got politely redirected to a caravan on a car park for a set of bibs , but was then told we were to Marshall the Parc Ferme in the Hotel Car Park.

so spent the next couple of hours giving ..Carlos Sainz, Juha K, Jimmy and Colin Macrae , Gwyndaf Evans and Malcolm Wilson directions as to where to park and telling them they had 9 minutes(why 9 i'll never know) to clear the car and stood next to the FIA official as he checked each engine number ..... a little bit star struck by the end of the evening.

Have to be honest really enjoyed the Monte Carlo this Year .

Co Driver: Dear God!.. {I was expecting heaven to be a little different. Oh! we're still alive}

Oh and the smell of hot oil after they passed :)
One year we were marshalling near the flying finish and a guy covered in badges was talking to his mate about drag coefficients of the new audi's (with and without wing mirrors seemed to be the debate)
He went on and on about it. What bullshitter!
We started talking loudly to each other making loads of rubbish up about the other cars

Come Saturday spied him being interviewed on the BBC - Head of Audi rally development - whoops
