Old car vs your zed

My e89 replaces the e46 convertible.

It's hard. I lost the 6 cylinder and the steering feel. Quite honestly the e89 I got didn't drive quite as nice as the one I tested. Maybe it improves now that it gets to be summer.

The reasons why I'm not more conflicted:
- e89 is pretty practical, actually
- I wanted a manual e46 with heated seats anyway, and the silver one was old-ish

It was time to refresh the e46, so maybe I do that after the lease ends. Or maybe I buy a used e89 with i6 and without the adaptive suspension.

I had two MX5s before the Zed, the first was a 2010 1,8 Miyako which was replaced with a 2011 2.0 litre Sport Black. The 1.8 was by far the better car in terms of driving pleasure, it handled a lot better than the Sport Black. I got the Zed after the electric roof of the Sport Black started making expensive noises and despite there still being a bit of warranty left on the car Mazda didn't want to know - £1400 they wanted to repair it, so I got rid of the car through a We Buy Any Car place who offered me £1000 more for it than I was in part ex! I vowed never to go near Mazda products ever again.

Compared to the Z the Miyako was a lot more fun to drive, the handling was sublime but up against the 2.0 litre Sport Black I'd take the Zed every time, it was a horrible car in every way.

The Sport Black

There have been a few reports of electric roof failure on the later MX5 RCs. Mine was just incredibly noisy and getting worse, but a few have seen total failure as teeth sheared off the motor pinion or cantilever quadrant - mine was an 11k mile car. The roof design is very complex so even the dealerships seem reluctant to touch them. The Roof on the Z4 is a breeze compared to the MX5 RC. The handling of the MX5 RC models is also nowhere as good as the ragtop cars, they feel soft and soggy in comparison but unfortunatley Mazda in their wisdom no longer make a Sport based ragtop, they're all RCs now.

I have been in my pals 2012 2.0 sport tech and thought it was spot on -bilsteins make the ride a bit harsh though IMHO -otherwise its a nice car and feels quick enough
