I know a couple of other people that bought the grill surround covers from bavauto and complained about the same thing - shitty quality and bad fitment. Have you tried talking to bavauto and see if they'd take the covers back?
I brought mine to a bodyshop (that deals with high-end cars) and had them paint the grills - both the chrome surrounds AND the black slats for about $40.
