OK everyone, let's come clean

I can tell you about the time I was riding my crotch rocket in the local mountains.
I was just cruising along at a pretty fast pace but not really pushing it (I save that for the track), when I came out of a long left hand sweeper onto a decent little uphill straight. I casually twist the throttle as I come onto the straight with a big smile on my face. I'm completely relaxed, thinking that I am the only one on the road for miles in either direction. That's when I just about had a heart attack! I hear this thunderous roar that comes up next to me so fast and loud that I almost ran off the road as I snapped back to reality! An extremely low red car goes flying past me up the hill with the gigantic rear tires spitting pebbles and road debris all over the place! Well when I eventually caught up to the guy at the cafe up the road I discovered he was driving a Pantera. I've got to say, that was definately one the most impressive displays of power I've seen while riding/driving anything on the road.

Haven't victimized anyone MTHEORY. Sure - lots of cars have overtaken me but I have never tried to beat them. I have had Civics, Corollas, Solstices, Mustangs, Jeeps, Infinitis, 335i's, a 540i, etc. etc. etc. a couple of Carrera's and one Ferrari 430 overtake me coming out of a traffic light.

If I walked upon this scene, a camera would be the last thing I'd reach for!

Mr. "Jeremy" from Top Gear HATES BMW. If you watch any other shows, anytime there is a BMW involved he will attempt to trash it and will only complement the car if it is clearly superior to the other cars being reviewed. A good example of this is the completely unfair and biased review of the X3 as well as the comparison between the new M3 vs. some 500+hp Mercedes. Only at the end of the show is he forced admit that the M3 is a better car than the Mercedes. Despite this flaw in his character, he is pretty funny. Watch his rip job on the Z8, it's hilarious.

He hates Americans even more. According to him, we're all rude, fat & stupid. :x

He makes 3 points :fuelfire: :fuelfire: :fuelfire: :poke: :poke: :poke:
I am NOT rude! :D

I admire your self control.

Hey, what's with the T-34? My great uncle fought in Russia for 3 years and before he passed away he would tell me some great stories about his PzKw IV getting manhandled by those T-34's.

That is the best tank ever made for it's time. It had a good mix of firepower, mobility, speed, and technology for the 1940's. Gave the Jerries a bloody nose. I picked it as my avatar just to keep me humble because the Soviet T-34 was made by a third rate military power (the USSR was third rate all the way till 1942-1943) and taught the Panzers a lesson! Sort of support the under-dog :D

I figured a Forum like this, with all the backslapping about what a great a car we drive, needs a some "humble pie", some tasty "crow" buffet, so here goes:

Last night at a light, I noticed the front end of a Mustang come to an aggressive stop next to me. Well, as you boys know, that's all we need to "teach this boy a lesson" in his Detroit wannabe bad mobile. I took off in the usual M Coupe fashion, shifting to second when I noticed the tach go somewhere near the yellow/red area. Third gear was the same. Only problem was that as I was shifting into third, the Mustang passed me as if I was standing still! As the rear end of the Mustang disappeared into the distance, I was able to read SALEEN on the bumper. Damn! That's not fair! Just wait till I get my M6!, or Porsche GT2 or 3 or something!. . . . I consoled myself by observing the speed limit all the way home.
Based on the 550hp and 500ft. lb. tq. you'll still get spanked in either your M6 or PC GT2. Assuming this event was held on a public highway too... shame on you - bring it to a track :poke:

First off, Caddy, as you know, racing is prohibited during track events! So I'm forced to navigate school zones when I'm blatantly challenged by what appear to be "lesser" vehicles.
You're probably right about the M6 not being able to keep up (although if the M6 had as much tweaking under the hood as the SALEEN, I'm sure German engineering would prevail)
As for the GT2, I disagree. I don't think there's a piston engine/gasoline powered Mustang that can outrun a GT2 1-100 or 0-200 for that matter.

The only place to compare cars is the Ring.

In a comparison/race/test (whatever), the car with the lowest time is quicker. FULLSTOP. If you are prepared to accept that as a basis for a comparison ...

MTHEORY, if you are up for a challenge - get hold of a Mustang in Germany, bring it to the Ring and compare it against my almost standard Z4MC. No speculation required - we will have an answer. I will even drive the Mustang if you like!

Keep thinking that - Cube rules - Us Americans know how to spank any Euro/Jap car in a straight line - just have not figured out how to turn or stop to any degree...

I have been beat on the drag strip by Hond Del Sol's,,,,little things have a hell of a HP to weight ratio when stripped down and engine upgrades just shy of FI or NOS.
The class I ran in was 4 or 6 cylinder, naturally aspirated, without drag slicks, on an 1/8th mile. If it was a 1/4 mile track, these guys would not stand a chance.
BTW, several other racers commented that these guys were known to have NOS on the street, but removed for the track :idunno:

1. I agree with everything you say. The video from Top Gear above pretty much shows you are correct.
2. However, there's an organization here in the US called NHRA which would disagree with most of what you say. (I tend to gravitate more towards F1 than NHRA or NASCAR, although my experience in an M3 doing 120MPH on the high bank at California Speedway gave me new found respect for NASCAR drivers)
3. I would love to go to Germany. I would be happy driving a moped around the 'Ring if I had the chance :driving:

MTHEORY,

Cool. To be honest our continents are geographically and historically so different I kind of understand why our priorities are different. As another example I thought Pick Up Trucks were a waste of time until I spent a few winters in Canada. The same could be said of Harleys - pointless in Europe but perfect in Florida ...

If you ever make it to Germany make sure you rent a car and do a few laps!

My plan now is to take European delivery of my next BMW and drive around Europe for a while. I'm probably going to wait till the 2010 model year. I'm hoping the CS or Z9 debut that year. Either way, my next new BMW will be a V-12. If this ever happens, I'll definitely take it and do a few laps around the 'Ring-after the break in period, of course.
