Oil

Looking at doing an oil change in the next few weeks - can anyone recommend a decent quality reasonably priced oil to use?

2003 E85 3.0i

Normally i use https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B011KRABFK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but not 100% this is the best to be using!

Tesco have got Castrol Magnatec 5/30 half price at the moment £9 for a 2 litre bottle.

I have 4 bottles sitting in my porch waiting for me to get off my arse and do my oil change.

I've converted to Petronas Syntium and have been very happy with it - no analysis done though. 8L plus a MANN oil filter is £50 from CP4LESS with weekend discount and you'll have some oil left over. £5.53 per litre.

I use Castrol Edge 0-30 from ECP.Get a Mann oil filter .If your mileage is above 60k I would go for 5-30.

The last professional change I had the mech suggested 5W40 to compensate for wear. I then noticed oil usage, not top up worthy but it did decrease slowly. Since I've been back on 5W30, no consumption.

cant beat Opies IMHO -for either price and speed of delivery
I got 6L of Fuchs fully super synth and filter for 40 quid incl delivery

If you ask ten people, you will probably get ten different replies. Just make sure it is BMW-approved long life of the correct weight.

That's the correct answer.
Do not change grades either on a whim that something different is better.

The real trick is getting it at a decent price. I use Costco when they have n offer

Oh, and change twice as frequently compared to schedule, IMHO that will make more difference that slight variations in brand.

I use 8k as a max interval with 7-7.5k as an average change/1 year, whichever is first.

+1. 10k or yearly, whichever comes first.

I'm going to do an interval oil & filter change this weekend or next.
Before I buy oil I'd like to double check it's that it's 5/30 I should go for? as putting my car into Opie's website, it showing 5/40
My car has 75K on the clock which isn't exactly high so thinking 5/30?

Do you guys siphon the oil out or let it out from the drain plug???

Do you flush first and still make sure the engine is hot when doing the change so the oil is more runny? A long time since I did an oil change. Also you change filter EVERY time?

I always drain as any sludge is at the bottom and I can inspect the drain plug should there be anything metal on it - never is thankfully
Have the engine warm, but not overly hot.
Never bother flushing as I'm changing oil frequently
Always a new filter. Why dirty the new oil?
