Oil warning light came on (yellow) so on the way to the shop to pick some up the engine mgt light came on yellow as well.

Topped up the oil with a lt and the oil warning light is off now - but the engine mgt light is still yellow.

haven't taken it out for a drive yet though - is this something that will go away after a drive? (Hopefully)

I hope it's nothing too serious as i've just spent £400 getting the ABS pump fixed :x :x

It may just be a coincidence, and while I am no expert based on my BMW experiences I don't think the EML will just go off.

You need to get into the OBD and have the fault codes read, and maybe reset depending on what the fault(s) is/are then see if you ger a recurrence.

As the N52 engines (facelift and E86 models) have no dipstick I make a point of checking my oil level with the button next to the trip recorder reset at lease once a week, just to be sure the sensor is working!

Hope you get it resolved OK, and without major wallet pain.

When I did my first z4 oil change, I put oil in it, then after a run, I got the add 1 litre of oil warning. On my way back home to fill it up with the requested 1 litre, the money light came on, just like yours!
Scanned it and got a "2F 9E Terminal oil level sensor".
Cleared the code and its never returned. And that was back in february.
Seems like an extra BMW way of saying,...get that oil added!

Very unlikely you have any problems here.
Andy.

That's good to hear, the light came on a while ago but it's been sat for the past few weeks whilst the abs pump got fixed.

Will get the garage to check the codes and see what's up

Fingers crossed

Gives you ample time to buy a cable and read the codes for yourself to see what it was. Will save you the cost of going to garages and is worth investigating why it came on in the first place.
