My car is giving me a beep when the engine goes off, the oil level isn't at the low level yet but I guess I should put a bit in. I've got half a litre of 5w40 fully synthetic stuff that has the BMW seal of approval on it. But I was just wanting to check that if is fully synthetic oil that will be in it? Didn't wanna mix fully with semi if that's what is likely to be in it.

Cheers.

Are you the original owner? If not, do you have service records? Only way to know for sure, but *recommended* oil is indeed fully synthetic.

Nope. I've got the service book, if the last service was at BMW (which I believe it was) then it should be as recommended.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't mix synthetic and non/semi synthetic oil, but I guess the only way to be sure is do an oil service.

I seem to be using a lot of oil in my 3.0se I've used 1/2 litre in the last 1000 miles!! I don't have any oil leeks, this sounds bad to me...

Anyone else think so?

Mixing types of oil is NOT a good idea. Even brands, if not an emergency, isn't the best thing to do as additives are not always compatible with one another.
