Hi,

before posting this I searched the whole forum for posts containing the word "Oil" and found not a single one!!!!!!!
Cant be right can it?

Anyhoo, I need to buy a top up bottle for between service top ups.
The car has full BMW Service history so I know its had whatever BMW reccomend which I THINK is Castrol SLX LL04 but then Ive read this is for Diesels!

Can anyone advise on what I should use and what is reccomended?

Thanks.
Phil.

Info should be right on the oil cap or in the manual. Over here the 2004 3.0L uses 5W-30 LL-01

LL04 is what a main delaer will supply you, TBH if you are only after 1 litre just as cheap as anywhere else as well.

Castrol EDGE 0w30... and it is BMW LL01 spec you need...

Is what I have always used. But on my last service note I see the dealer has changed it to 0w40. Anyone else had this?

Yeah I think your right about the search term being too short. Good shout!
I had emailed my selling dealer at the same time as posting on here.
Their reply was that they used "Castrol SLX Fully Synthetic Grade 030" which matches to what you guys have said.

I notice some of you have said LL01 and some LL04?
whats the difference between these two as the weights seem toe same at 30W.

Thanks.

Castrol EDGE is the replacement for SLX...

dont know the difference between LL01 and LL04 other than what it says here which seems to suggest you can use either
