Oil top up required?

Never had to top up my engine oil in any car I've owned. But after having the yellow oil can symbol illuminating after engine is switched off happening for a few days, the display informed me to add a litre. I had the oil changed 6,000 miles ago on my 60,000 miler 2.0i.

Should I be concerned?

I wouldn't worry at all. 1 Litre in 6,000 miles is a very low rate of oil consumption. I wouldn't worry at all about anything worse than about a litre every 2,000 miles. Just make sure that you top it up as and when required. Always a good idea to keep a full litre bottle ready for when needed.

I too was a little shocked by the oil consumption on these cars. Like you, I'd never really had to top up the oil in any other car but my Z4 seems to use about a litre every 2-3000 miles! BMW approved oils have the code LL04 and this is the stuff you should put in. Really expensive from places like Halfords. Andrew Page is the place to buy it from. 5 litre cost me £19.99
