Oil Tester

I recently had the zed MOT'd and it passed without advisories again thankfully. The garage also gave it a free health check which included testing the brake fluid, coolant and interestingly, the oil. My car's oil is about 10000 miles from needing changing according to the service indicator but I was due to change it soon as I normally change it well before it's due. Anyway, the garage said the oil was very good and didn't need changing.

He showed me the device they used. Searching around I found it was a Lubricheck. Around £50 and can be bought on Amazon.

There's not many reviews on UK Amazon but plenty on the US Amazon site - mainly positive.

Thoughts?

Waste of time I would think.

You need proper chemical analysis from the likes of millers.

Got mine test just under 2 years ago and will do again in March. Costs around £30 for a proper detailed report.

It says that it doesn't work on some high performance oils due to their chemical make up - so not sure how trustworthy it is at all.

It only claims to lengthen your oil service intervals to save cash, when most of us are more interested in saving the engine by doing more frequent services.

I'm also skeptical as all the reviews are from Amazon.com - and they're still buying clutch stops and 'fuel tank catalyst tablets' :P

Amazon do an even cheaper oil and fluid tester, just £4.79!

On a serious note my Zed is in for service today and a quick visual and 'nose' check of the oil showed it was virtually clear with no 'burnt' pong to it and really didn't need doing. Not surprising since it''s only done a shameful 1,500 miles since the last change 2 years ago
But the engine's only done 47k and is the smoothest, quietest motor I've owned, I would just rather keep the servicing right for the sake of a few quid TBH.
