Oil Temp question

This is sounding like a bit of mission to get to the bottom of. Fingers crossed that the flash works. Good job you've stuck at it. Most people would just take their word that it was acting as it should.

***UPDATE***UPDATE*****

They have ordered a DME module now.
Will install it, Fed Ex willing, on Wed and We'll know by Thursday

Actually BMW is running the show.
They are following their instructions.
So yes, they ran out of ideas

Latest update. Car has been in the shop 2 weeks this time.Service adviser called and said that there are 12 of these computer modules in the country and I guess there is another car that has the same symptoms and so they are recalling all the spares and build new ones. I guess they think they are all faulty.
Will be 10 days at the earliest.
Wish we had a little sportier loaner than the 2016 X1
But my wife says it doesn't drive bad.
I thought all cars from 2015 on had to have back up cameras... not that you guys would know that as I think that was a US mandate

NOTE: Just looked it up . They moved it again to 2018

This weeks update

The NEW DME module came in and they installed and downloaded the software.
The shop foreman drove it home...No problem
First start up in the morning it went straight to the over heating and the oil temp gauge didn't move.
After lengthy calls and information passes to BMW they are now on the electric water pump.
They will try that on Tuesday.
I get the feeling from my service adviser that they are reaching the end of ideas.
He's never seen a car you can't fix. He's stumped and glad it's in the Corporation's court

With the fault showing a faulty thermostat sensor there is nothing to say that the replacement that was fitted wasnt faulty also.
As I said previously a new thermostat housing was fitted to our mini but the sensor in it was faulty.

Well, they got the water pump in but decided to change the intercooler first.
After that was installed it ran great....for a day and a half.
They started it up today to have it cleaned for my wife to pick up, and back to the original symptoms.
So today the water pump will be replaced and then some drive cycles tomorrow.
Don't see how that will fix it.
I think it's time for a face to face with the dealership and BMW

This weeks entry, the water pump had no effect and now there is a engine wiring harness on order from Germany.
Should be here in about 10 days depending on customs.
What really surprises me is that I have not heard word one from a BMW customer service person.
Our car has been in the shop basically since Dec 05 and part after part has been thrown at it with no success.
You would think they would want to appease us to keep us as customers of their product.

They have your money and you have a car.......they don't care!

I think you'll find they have both by the sounds of it!

Unfortunately DNK unless you make a fuss, customer services won't be bothered about you. They will assume you are happy with how things are, how they could possibly think anyone was in this situation is beyond me.

I'd be demanding someone to set out some sort of timeline and a worst case senarios, if they can't fix it what they will do and by when.

Just got off the phone with them
It seems the technical side does not talk to the customer service side when there is a car with problems.
I let them know that i think they need to discuss changing that as things move forward.
I reiterated that if there is no positive outcome with this harness change that a meeting between all the parties needs to take place.
He assured me that if there can be no positive outcome foreseeably, the service manager will be in touch...YEAH, sure.

This weeks post

They replaced the H2O thermostat for the 5th time and while they waited for the main harness coming from Europe they replaced the sub harness that goes to that. That seemed to fix the sudo overheating problem but the oil temp still hasn't been fixed.
Supposedly there is a 28i in Sarasota Fl. with the same issue and the engine harness fixed that , so I have hope our saga will soon end.
Harness is suppose to be at the dealer on Tuesday.
Fingers and toes crossed

So here it is April ninth.
A little update. We actually got the car back on March 11t. After about $15K of repairs and a totally new harness they thought everything was hunky dory.
Well, no, within a week it was back at the old problem.
Within 2 miles of the morning start up,no movement of the oil temp gauge and the fan turns on high.Being that it thinks it is overheating it goes into savior mode and cuts out the turbos so the car is gutless and kind off dangerous to drive.
We have discovered 1 interesting phenomenon, if the morning temp is over 70 it doesn't do it and it won't in the afternoon if it is warm.
Also if it is doing this and you turn it off. When you restart it will be perfect again.
So it is back in the shop today and after a LONG talk with the service manager we told him we'll give him another crack at it and it was his suggestion that maybe it could be time to address a different car.
So here are the specs
2013 17K on the ody, 280i M package with nav, in black.
We discussed the fact that how do you replace that with equal value and he said he doesn't know if BMW would throw some in.
So that's it for now.
Any later and the morning temps will constantly be well above 70 here, so the time is ticking or will will be back at this next fall when the weather clears and thew value of the car has dropped more

Sorry to hear it's still not fixed. I think it's time to move onto another E89, a different model or brand all together. It's truly shocking that still it's not been resolved.

I'm starting to think this might be ECU/sensor related, they keep replacing components that might not be wrong.

Off the wall suggestion:- Did you get BMW to perform a full ECU reflash or DME replacement just to see? I'm not sure JB4/MHD would adjust anything affecting the temp sensors, but in your situation I'd be trying everything!

Hopefully the last post about this
The changed the radiator, interesting ides, and said seems OK
They gave the car back yesterday...on fumes. She was NOT happy

Being that the weather is warmer and it seems temp related we probably won't know until the end of Oct beginning of Nov if it is fixed
