oil service

I'm quite capable of doing my own but should I? In terms of keeping the service record up to date and booked stamped etc.

Local franchised dealer wants £250 quid... pisstake
Good local indy wants £110...much more on the money

I guess it would be good to keep the service book upto date but I really despise paying someone to do a job i can do quite easily myself... car is a 2006 3.0si, am i devaluing the car by doing it myself and leaving a gap in the service book, obviously early oil changes I'm not really concerned about as ill keep the reciepts to show its been done as extra... opinions?
 
Personally think it's still at an age & value where service history matters

On my old sub 5k 330 cabby I used to do all my own servicing as the arse had fell out of e46 values - I'd go Indy , others may differ :)
 
Yeah, I'd go Indy too. It's worth potential resale value to keep some quality stamps in there :)
 
Best to DIY - keep the receipts and make an entry in the service book. However, these cars take 6.5 litres of oil and good oil could cost you £60 plus for 8 litres plus another £10 for the filter. Therefore not much in it really if you go to an Indy so long as they use decent oil and not something like Comma which they buy in massive containers. The BMW price will be for their long life oil which is much more expensive but anyone who goes down the route of long service intervals must be nuts.
If you are intending to change oil annually which is a good idea I would DIY as I said earlier since a potential buyer should be impressed by the care and attention in maintaining the vehicle.
 
I DIY and sign it up, having seen on here that some cars with full BMW histories were on their original air filters I think I can argue the point!
If I come to sell and they want full BMW stamps then it's their loss.

Totally agree - I change the long life oil and filters every year at about 4000 miles.I know which car I'd rather have!
 
Exactly, the standard intervals are far too long. I'm running oil for about 6 months at the moment but doing about 16k a year.
 
Franchised dealer needs to follow the prices posted here: https://www.bmw-service.co.uk - unsure about your car/mileage but it comes to £189 for me. If you really want the service stamp.
 
I think i will indy this one for the stamp then change annually myself till inspection 1, for the price of oil, filter and cabin filter 110 doesnt seem too outrageous tbf

Im happy with the indy stamp... not sure where the franchised dealer is getting his prices from 250 for an oil change is a liberty.... its enough to give me the arsehole, and i can't have the arsehole now can I? :D
