Oil service

Hi Everyone

4 weeks in to ownership now and I love the car. Just had a warning beep sounding when I turn ignition off and an oil service in 1400 miles display.

What does an oil service involve, if it's just change oil and filter I can handle that myself. If there is more involved I will put it in to get done.

Oil, oil filter and air filter are all you really need.

The official oil service has a few more bits I think, maybe brake fluid and the like, but it depends on when it was last done.
 
Thanks. Last service in book at an independent BMW garage was 81105. Mileage now 81951 and the oil looks brand new. Could it be that the service indicator just needs resetting. How often should the oil be changed. :thumbsup:
 
It could be the last garage didn't reset the service interval, which is every 14k miles or so. Personally I change the oil every six months.

You need to check the history to make sure that the services have followed the correct guidance, they should go Oil, Insp 1, Oil, Insp 2, Oil... And so on.

If I were you, I'd do another oil change and reset the interval so you have peace of mind.
