Oil Service

Hi,

I have an 07 Z4M - approx 34k miles. It's due an oil service in 500 miles. I'll be eating up some of the 500 miles this week (probably 150 or so). I just had a call which means that I have to make an unplanned trip to Normandy on Saturday (returning the following Saturday). At the most, I'd be putting 1k miles on it over the week. I can't get it in for an oil service until I get back, so at some point during my trip it's going to be due.

I know it's probably me being over cautious, but will be it OK to go about 1k miles over the oil service due reminder?

I'm sure you could find a BMW dealer in Normandy that could do it for you, and probably at a cheaper rate than a UK dealer.

However, I wouldn't worry if you're only going to go 500-1000 miles over - especially if the interval including these miles is still less than 15,000.

DON'T DO IT!

The minute you drive 1mile over the limit your lovely engine will seize and stop functioning.

On a serious note, I was in a similar predicament three years ago. I contacted my local dealer and asked to speak to their Master Technician who told me that BMW have a limit - unfortunately I cannot remember the exact figure - that they are happy to allow you to drive before they will void a warranty. Best bet is to call them and ask. My then dealer was more than happy to help.

HTH,

Alex

:D I am a bit of a jess!

I have called the dealer and was told that there was a 3k window either side of the due warning, but that they didn't recommend putting those additional miles on it. Suitably vague that I thought I'd ask here. I'll call the warranty people and see what they have to say.

mmm-five - my parents live in a really remote spot. Not sure I've even seen a BMW dealer whilst I've been round and about there. Still be worth looking at though - thanks for the suggestion.

i got to the -1250 mark on mine last time, but rang dealers to check it was ok first.

3k sounds like a good moan point, wonder if it lists it in the ext. warranty t&cs?

I spoke to warranty services earlier and they said it's up to the dealer. Dealer says 3k miles (although not recommended), so I'll take them at their word. I'll get it sorted as soon as I get back.

I checked that the woman in servicing knew I was talking about an M, and 3k was the figure mentioned. I rarely feel 100% reassured by the information I receive from them though, hence asking here.

I should get it back to the UK and to a dealer within -1k.
