Cheers folks, want it done by BMW. Car has fbmwsh so not going to change that when car is going up for sale. Could do it myself but want the dealer stamp & to give people the peice of mind my car is looked after.

People like you are the reason dealers charge an absolute fortune.

Are you saying athat getting your car serviced by a bmw specialist means you don't look after your car as much as someone who takes it to a bmw dealer?

The specialist more than likely takes more care and does the better job.

Brainwashed.

Market/buyer perception. That's all that counts. It's a self fulfilling prophecy yes. Even a petrolhead aware that many indies care more than stealers will try to bargain on account of non main dealer service stamps.

I also feel personally on performance cars I wouldn't like to see a quick fit type stamp because it's possible the owner might take other short cuts. How many Zeds turn up at these places, am I absolutely sure they know what they are looking for?

You can,t really compare Kwikfit or ATS alongside a decent indy though

Exactly. I have a local trusted mechanic, when I had my old Focus all the work went to him. But he's a VW specialist but good on most marques. I would have had no problem getting a service done on that at a fast fit place though. However now I own the Zed the work gets done at BMW specialist/indy. If you buy a valuable nearly new car however main dealer stamps are required simply to retain value. There's a cross point in the vehicles life where it becomes more economical and sensible to use a trusted indy specialist.

Assume we,re talking general car,s here like BMW,S ,VW,s ,Audi,s etc ? Not supercar,s
Once a car is out of warranty & into MOT territory i,m not convinced the dealer stamp adds a whole lot of value , it obviously help,s widen your audience as a seller but if trading in the vehicle then i doubt any supposed extra money offered would offset the extra cost incurred when the work was done ,
Low miles & condition can far outweigh dealer history when it come,s to resale of used vehicles . no stats for that , jmo :P

Wow the dealer prices are high! I'm no spanner monkey but have just invested in a decent low profile trolley jack and jack stands. Looks like oil, filter and equipment will get return on investment after the second DIY change. Obviously I'm not at a stage in my career where my spare time is worth more than a BMW tech is paid. Soon...

As with most things there's no catch all rule. My Zed was 100% main dealer stamps. My first service an Indy specialist. A lot depends upon future plans for disposal, intended length of ownership, previous history. If you buy a car with an indy stamp then there's zero benefit to using a stealer. Personally speaking I would have to be getting a tremendous deal to buy a performance car with any type of fast fit stamp. I do feel that devalues the car. Some people are happy to trade-in and will accept whatever they're offered so it won't matter to them.
