Oil Service 3.0

Can't find a recent thread on prices, so thought I'd check.

Local dealer wants £360 (discounted from his "list price" of £450?!) for an oil service. That seems a bit high?

I also have issues with the passenger window (99% sure it's a broken regulator - was using it when I heard the snap, and window now moves freely, motor is fine), and they want a further £99 to "diagnose the issue".

This is London, so I would expect a premium, but that still seems very high?

That's much too high if it's just oil. I paid 280 for oil, micro filter and brake fluid change from a main dealer.

and your right about the window so save yourself £99,exactly the same happened to me crunch then snap and nothing going on but the motor,
£99 just to take your door card off to have a look :headbang:

Definately too high.
I bought all the bits for a full service (oil, plugs, filter, pads and brake fluild) from eurocarparts just last weekend and it all cost less than £100 (25% off in the current summer sale!)
Changing the whole lot was, at most, a two hour job.

Save yourself a butt-tonne and do it yourself - it's extremely simple and doable with even the most basic toolkit!

I'd bet my bottom dollar that the wire in the regulator has gone. EXACTLY the same thing happened with mine.
It's £145 for the replacement regulator, and again, it's an easy job to replace.
Only thing to be wary of is when you disconnect the airbag - disconnect the battery AT LEAST 30 minutes before attempting it.
And once it's off, dont reconnect it (even to just check your window moves correctly - like I did) without reconnecting the bag - else you'll get your SRS warning light on. (£65 to clear it at BMW, around £35 at an indy, or £17.99 if you buy the tool to reset it yourself from Amazon - its called a B800 just incase :P)

If you need some advice on how to do any of the above yourself, I'm back here now so feel free to PM / reply for help.
But yeah.. DEFINITELY do it yourself - even my mum could do it!

Where in London are you? I'm more than willing to come lend a hand. I've never changed a reg before, but if it's not difficult we'll be fine. I have had the entire interior apart before though, so that bits fine. I've also done a shed load of servicing etc.

Oh, and I also have le tools.

can i come too i could do with a service, sounds a good day out a group service day

Yeah no problem at all. If someone has a driveway (I don't at the moment) it'd be ideal. Easiest job in the world though. I've always been a DIY guy, so we'll have no issues.

I have all the relevant tools, a decent jack and some stands, so it'll be a piece of cake.

I also need to change oil on mine, a group oil change day sounds like a great plan! All we need is a big space, and some people with the right tools!

LOL! I'll end up as the unofficial forum mecahnic at this rate. Belt changes, brake changes, seat fitting, rear springs, all is available boys and girls ;)

Can I be your pimp.. I mean.. manager?
I'll just knock 20% off the top for meself mind

I think I'll go to Gillberts so they can stamp it for the oil service still, but trying to fit the regulator could be fun.

Next question is where to buy the cheapest one from? Cooper parts has it at 156+VAT but I'm guessing there's better elsewhere? (I think it's 51337198909, passenger side, pre-facelift).

Many thanks. £114.38 inc VAT and delivery. (25% off for Twitter followers was valid on this part).

Just got to install it in now. This shall be fun (I hope).
