Oil recommendation for the next 100k miles?

As some of you may know my zed recently ticked over the 100k mark and ignoring the recommended service intervals I like to change the oil every year to try and minimise wear on the engine....

So now its getting on a bit do I change up the oil if so what should I put in...

Also oil filter which to buy? Normally let the garage handle it but trying to save a bit of cash by sourcing parts myself

Keep using the best oil you can get...

I have a couple of Mann filters on my shelf at the moment, (they came with the car when I got it)

I would go from 5w-30 to 5w 40 at that mileage..

100k N52 :? Not known for using oil so unless its noticeably smoking or requiring regular top ups id stay with 5w 30 .
As for which brand ? We all have our favourites & its always Millers for me

Yeah hardly uses any oil compared to the old M54 I had that was taking a litre every 1k!

Just had the oil light come on yesterday after not having topped up at all since the service so that's a year and nearly 8k without any oil so i'll stick with what its got, pretty sure its millers in there as that's what my mate who did the last service always recommends

+1. Stick with the right grade unless you have an issue that's engine wear and not a CCV or oil leak etc. I'd only move to a 40's if it's definitely burning oil. Theres plently of 200k + Bmw engines still running on the original 5w 30 without issue partculaly in the states. I knew of one that used to be owned by a mate, an LPG 330I that was on just over 250k using it until it met with an untimely end

Sorry to thread hijack but congrats and I’m sure you’ll do a top job as a moderator Colin. Hope ur zeds going sweet. All the best.

How is your si holding up in general at the 100k mark James? had the water pump replaced?

WHY would you even ask that?! :poke:

I had 10W40 put in the change before last and found an increase in consumption so switched back. You can try it but if you do, keep an eye on it incase yours does the same. Neither can hurt though.

Good quality, more frequent than standard should see you right along with decent filters.

Don't forget the box and to a lesser extent, the diff.

I guess I'm projecting my own fears :D
