Oil Reading

Hi, i just got my car serviced (inspection 1) from my local mechanic. He put 6.5l of oil into the car as per manual, however the when i press the button for the oil reading on the dash it only showed us 3 out of 5 bars full and then "OK" under that.

Can anyone confirm if this is normal or should it show the full 5 bar reading when 6.5l are put into it, thanks in advance...
 
Mine was also changed, 6.5 litres used and reading 5 bars & ok, so yours should be as well if it is full.
 
Was the engine fully warm? Were you on a level surface? If so, you may not have received quite all the oil you paid for.

Does the ///M have a dipstick :?

If not there are two buttons between the two instrument clusters on the dash - if you press the right hand one with the engine on at operating temperature (not cold) on a level surface it will read the oil level and present it on the left hand cluster where the mileage normally is. Represented by 5 blocks - 5 is full, at 0 it will tell you to add a litre.

Sounds like the OP is either doing the reading cold / on a slope, or not enough oil has been added. I guess it could also be a faulty sensor, as they do occasionally fail I believe.
 
When it gets to 0 will it let you know that it's time to fill up? Or do you have to keep checking the level? Is 1 litre enough to fill up from 0?

If you don't actively check it will tell you when you start the car up if it is so low it needs a fill. Checking once a month is ok in my experience. Takes a long time for these cars to eat a litre of oil. And yes, 1 litre is enough - it actually says '+1l' when it needs it. Personally, I always have a litre of oil in the boot.

Worth saying, buy a litre (or buy loads and measure a litre out) and put a litre in - don't be tempted to guesstimate it or put more than a litre in. This is, from what I have read, Very Bad, and will require draining the oil from the car and refilling.

Personally I find you can never have too much lubrication, but apparently this is not true of car engines :P

Thanks for all of the replies guys... i tried it again this morning on the way to work and it is reading full now... maybe the car needed to be driven a few miles :oops:
