Oil Pump

Today I visited JC Racing

Between us we stripped the oil pump, it was just the relive valve that was showing a small amount of wear so to future prof the lube system and the engine I have gone down the route of an external oil relive valve .

This is not the cheapest option but should be one of or is the best to protect the lube oil system and the engine.

JC Racing have loads of experience with BMW’s

So I can now start the rebuild of the front end of the car as soo much has to come off just to get the sump pan off.

As suggested by a couple of engine builders that the oil pump is known issue along with the con rod bearings and the amount of work to get to the rod bearings means removing the oil pump it is wise to at least check or replace the pump.

The weak part of the oil pump is not the pump it’s self it is the integrated oil pressure relive valve if this fails you end up with not enough or no oil and a large repair bill.

So this is just making people ware of the issue and that there is options

Also the parts for the pressure relive valve are not available from BMW but JR C can get the individual parts through BMW motorsport

Oil pump is a weak link? That's the first I've heard. I've heard of one imploding catastrophic-ly, but that was due to the engine imploding at the same time? Any more info on this bud?
