Oil Pan

Hi looking to change the oil pan gasket on a 2010 E89 3.5is, anyone give me some advice on how much I can expect to pay for the repair, BMW or local independent?. Thanks :driving:

Hi so basically had the RAC looked and they have reported Final drive slight leak, Auto-gearbox leak evident and Camshaft area leak evident, he did comment that he could not properly see the leaks and the are would need to be wiped down to pinpoint where the oil is coming from so an idea of associated costs would help

Just to add car sits in garage and there has been no oil marks on the floor of the garage

Leak or weep ? Id be wary of throwing vast sums of money chasing "problems" that aren't :(
If you have a trusted indy then run the car in for a looking at , take their opinion on board & proceed from there , if you haven't a decent indy then ask on here for recommendations in your area

This is what the RAC reported

Very interested on coatings for this.

I have noticed oil usage and moving the car today saw small puddles on the floor.

Looking back over the old paperwork I found the following reported

‘Camcover and sump gaskets weeping oil’

That’s obviously where it’s all coming from... the car will be going for service this month, to get the above replaced what prices can I expect?

Surprisingly high ones. The cam cover gasket replacement takes longer than you'd think and the (DCT gearbox) sump gasket usually includes replacement of the sump plate, too.

Phone the garage that's going to do the work.

I was told by my Indy garage that the dct gearbox sump gasket comes as a kit which I think includes gasket, new sump cover and the oil.
He said the kit is £200 on its own, didn't give me price on fitting as it was just a passing comment.

I have an invoice for the gearbox gasket and oil change in November. So that helps

My 23i engine sump gasket was leaking slightly at the rear end.
Gasket was over £100 and eventually the mechanic said lets just try tightening it up, I believe the gasket is rubber..
That was over a year ago, no more leaks.
You will also need to replace all the aluminium bolts securing the sump, they are single use.

I was quoted £250 inc parts for the work, it means dropping the front subframe.

The cam cover gasket is important to get done, if the oil gets anywhere near your belts they will slip and likely dismount the pulleys and cause damage or a walk home.
Either way an oil soaked belt needs replacing anyway.

Thanks for all the information B for BMW in Clydebank quoted £300 for parts and labour

I have been using them for the past 4 years and never had a problem.
Really good to deal with.
