Oil overfill or oil leak?

I suspect the oil has been over-filled on my 2005 2.0l z4 :o

The oil indicator seems to be as far right as possible

There is oil on the plate just under the oil cap on the left of the engine which is burning off when the engine is hot.
I tried cleaning this off but seems to be coming back :?

Is there anyway to drain the oil? There doesn't seem to be a dipstick which you could use a pump on?

Will this cause damage if I keep using the car?

P.s is there any link to an online version of the owners manual? Mine didn't come with on and it's frustrating not knowing how to do things like check oil level. Spent ages looking for the bloody dipstick!
 
Do you press the check button after the engine has well warmed up?-does it say OK when it has finished scanning?-i miss a dipstick :thumbsdown:
 
if you think the car has been overfilled running it could damage it. my z has a dipstick so i can check. not sure about scanning through the system but if it was my car. I would drain and see how much is really in there. some one may have a better suggestion though.
 
It's obviously been like this since I picked it up last week. Not wanting to drive it now Incase it causes damage.

Has anyone encountered a similar problem with oil on that plate after overfilling or is it more likely to be a leak?
 
A sure fire way to tell is to pop off the small caps on the shroud and remove the four bolts. With out pictures I'm at a loss to help you

Thanks for that! Would seem from that the oil level 'may' be ok.

There is still the excess oil on the plate tho, might try washing that off tomorrow. Wiping up the excess i could see today didn't really help.

Will need to get it into a garage ASAP.
 
By the look of it the could be just a touch over so you might be ok but for piece of mind it won't hurt to have it checked :thumbsup:

Gonna clean the car and engine bay tomorrow. Will hopefully get it into the garage on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Will be taking it very easy till then.
 
To be honest where that stain is I don't think it would be due to having to much oil.

I would say either some was spilt when the changed it, or you have a cover seal leak.

Onyl was to check how much oil is in there though is to drain.

I would agree with this!

And just on looking at your photo of your oil level meter..your oil level is supposed to be filled ideally until the gauge shows what yours shows! If the oil level is too high then a different symbol will appear in the display!
 
Yeah no other warning lights on dash. Will get as much of it off as possible tomorrow and see if the white smoke re-appears.
 
Same you cant retrofit a proper dipstick.

Would like to know who the 'dipstick' thought that no dipstick is a good idea!!
 
rocker cover gasket is faulty :? another couple of small things too so hopefully getting it repaired before the end of the week!
