Oil on Rocker Cover - Panic?

Hi

I'm guessing it's nothing to worry about but I thought I'd ask here. My Zed was recently spanked into and I don't think I've had the hood up in a month. When it went to BMW for a quote there was Oil on the Rocker Cover around the Filler Cap, I'll add a photo later.

The Car has been running fine, beautifully in fact and I usually check the oil and tire pressures before a long trip so it's definitely recent.

A very quick google brought up this gem

"It could be the 1 bar oil pressure release valve. £20 for a new one or 20p for just the o-ring. Almost guaranteed to leak every 5 years"

The cars going to BMW for the body work any way so I'll get them to check.

Just wondering if I should panic?

Certainly no need to 'panic', but you don't say the extent of the leak. If it's just a mist of oil around it no worry. Fix when you go in. If it's pouring out then don't drive much. I assume the former.

In any event oil leaks always need fixing and if on the top of an engine generally just messy, nothing more.

It's definitely a misting but a large misting (If that makes sense?) I mean when the damage assessor put his finger on it wasn't like his fingers were dripping.

Plus there are no puddles where are I park the car.

I'll post a pic once I get in tonight. Either way it's in at BMW for the repair work so they can sort it out.

Not had it on my z4, but my E36 m3 does it all the time, especially after a hard session. I'm sure a new filler cap would sort it, but as with all things E36 you can't replace everything as you would be there forever.
