Is this relatively common on m54s at all. Pretty certain mine is weeping through. Trying to pin down why the car sticks of burning oil. There are no drips at the bottom and rocker cover is pretty good. Only changed it last winter.

oil filter housing gasket failure is pretty common
If you can smell burning oil it is highly likely getting on the exhaust/manifold. Have you run your fingers all the way round the cam cover gasket join. Did you use RTV on the 'halfmoons' front and rear of the gasket ? Were the centre gaskets that seal the spark plug tubes seated correctly ?

Think it's bad news. Oil sump gasket ffs. Looks like it's pissing out.
