Hey guys,

Z4 is running low on engine oil since driving to london then back up north over the weekend. Turned yellow for a few seconds when I turned her off this morning. When is the type of oil to get, and put in the big hole in the engine? Technical term.

Handbook will give you the info you are looking for if not go on here the Castrol Oil website type in your reg number and hey presto it will give you details of the oli type and spec (Castrol of course....).....or do a search on here and wait for a deluge of hits

For intermittent top ups I keep a 1L bottle of Magnatec in the boot. I think it's 5W-30 Magnatec that Halfords recommend (Just check in-store) although I'm pretty sure that BMW would use 0W-30 at service times. The 0W-30 stuff is more expensive because it's operating temperature is more linear, but to keep me out of trouble this stuff is fine.

I tried it myself and...

... I was/am using the "Alternative recommendations: EDGE 0W-30 / Magnatec 5W-30 C3; EDGE 0W-30 / Magnatec 5W-30 C3" as it was easy to find at the local Halfords. This confirms that it's not the first choice, but not really a problem (Especially for small top-ups).

Yup much better.
