i think the oil level sensor is on its way out on my 03 3.0 as it randomly comes on but the oil level is spot on
wondered if anyone has changed one had a look at bmw tis and it mention removing the suspension reinforcing plate
looks pretty straight forward except it states a special tool is required to retorque the bolts
help anyone

this is straightforward enough. You need to take off the plastic splashguard first. Then the metal plate that protects the sump (I just put them all back in at the same torque). Unclip the wiring connector and then 3 nuts and out comes the sensor.

"Refitting is the reverse of removal" as Mr Haynes says. Oh and drain all the oil out of the sump BEFORE you remove the sensor (I so very nearly forgot to do this). And then refill with oil

New sensor is £116 from your stealer. Don't order the gasket separately as you get one with the sensor (or you can have mine). My sensor got clouted by a rock (or something) shaving the top off it and causing a slight leak. Counting myself lucky not to have my sump drain all over the road
