Oil Leak

I've got a very slow oil leak which is going to have to be fixed. The engine bay is pretty dirty so the first task will be a clean up before searching for the culprit.

Are there any areas which are more prone to leaks than others? Where would you look first?

Could be any one of a hundred things so pointless guessing at usual rocker covers, hoses, filters, etc. unless you can already see an approximate area. Oil sprays, drips, creep, moves backwards under driving airflow, etc.

Take the undertray tray off to see clearly.

Start to zone in by looking at top, bottom, back,,etc. for the most oily part.
Degrease the engine, run and see where it reappears from.

oil filter housing gasket is fairly common... still need to get round to doing mine, if its pooling around the filter housing at all then thats most likely culprit imho although as cj mentioned it could actually be anywhere

I've had rocker cover and oil filter gaskets leaking but they were cheap fixes. When I took it in I knew the rocker cover needed doing so was dreading the bill when he said he found another leak but wasn't that bad at all

Oil leaks are money for old rope for garages.
My XF went in for a service and they reported leaking turbo pipes - all in a £500 fix. I could see nothing and on the last service 1 year later - surprise no leaks sir - we had a good look...
