Oil leak, with pics.

I've been losing oil for a while now and whilst my mate was driving behind me the other week, he commented on the smell of oil coming from my car.

I could hear something dripping onto a hot bit of metal, causing a tscchhh noise. Had a look this evening and managed to find a leak.

It's on the left of the engine, above the manifolds and is dripping onto the heatshield.

Is this the rocker cover gasket at fault? Seems a lot of people have changed their's, so maybe they can confirm whether this is the issue?

Yes... Leaking where the valve cover gasket crosses the joint where the VANOS is bolted to the front of the valve/header..... When you replace the valve gasket ensure you out a small blob of silicone on the joint. It's required by the TIS IF YOU READ THE REOAIR/replacement procedure. It ensures that this joint doesn't leak.

Really common on that engine..

But only OEM gasket and bolt O rings.. It's about an hour of a job

is it just number 16 on the link that I need? Or are any other parts needed also?

16 seems to point to just the spark plug seals...

But if you buy they outer seal, the spark plug seals come with them..

You also want to small rubber "O" rings that fit around each cam cover bolt..

Ok cheers. The spark plug seals come with the valve cover gasket from what I can see on the net.

Can't seem to find the O rings for the cam cover bolts :(

diagram more clearer at bmminiparts, 16 is the gasket set (Set of profile gaskets)

Thanks for that, much clearer

Is number 6 the O rings you're talking about, Z4M-2006?

Eurocarparts have the gaskets for £26.50 but no mention of brand. Have used the price finder option on bmminiparts for a quote as would prefer OEM if possible for something like that.
