Oil Leak - Repair Cost?

Just had my car (09 plate 23i) in the local garage for a small oil leak. They've come back and said it's a tiny leak on the rear propshaft seal but would need to be taken to a BMW garage as they don't have the right tools to remove the propshaft and replace the seal (Small garage).

Anyone have any idea on how much I'm looking at? Also if it's such a small leak, is it worth repairing or just leaving and keeping an eye on it?

You have time to investigate this. Try some others Indies in your area. The guys on here will suggest some. I know BMWman near Heanor, Derbyshire.

At a BMW main dealer it's going to hurt if you don't have extended warranty, and by the sounds of it, you don't...

I don't think I'd want to risk leaving it - it's not like it is easy to monitor the oil level, unless you have access to a lift.

If you say whereabouts you are hopefully someone will be able to recommend a good BMW Indy in your area.

I'm in Kent :)

Car is back, the guy at the garage has said that he doesn't think the AutoProtect warranty would cover it as basically it's not worth the paper it's written on. Luckily I didn't pay too much for it but still feel short changed!

He said the oil levels all look fine so the leak is very minor, but is present. Rest of the car is pristine so hopefully it's not an expensive fix otherwise I can see the other half gunning for a change of vehicle.
