Oil leak fix?

I bought a used 2011 BMW Z4 s drive 30i and they told me it had a complete diagnostic and I just found out from my mechanic recently that the Oil housing filter gasket was leaking there's also a slight oil leak I think in the valve cover, so my mechanic fixed it and my question is is this something that's going to always happen, if I rev the engine up or if I drive a little faster and speed limits is this going to leak again because I know these cars are gentle and you have to be extremely careful but I'm just worried about the oil leaking again.. so I was just wondering is once these issues are addressed is it okay for a while or will I have any more proceeding problems? I had a complete inspection done and everything seems great.

Welcome, oil filter housing and cam box covers leaking through either their gaskets or due to age and cracking are relatively common faults on BMW engines..ageing plastics crack and distort with heat and age. :tumbleweed:

The good news is that on the 30i there aren’t that many other endemic faults.

Paradoxically you would probably have less leaks if you drove it at speed rather than stop / start crawling along… :driving:

I bought a 330i with the same N52 engine as a daily a couple of years ago and it had just had a new cam-cover gasket fitted at 107K miles, but was leaking from the oil filter housing. :(

I just kept topping it up until it was due a service this year when it got a new gasket.

But once they've been replaced you shouldn't have problems with them for years - after all the originals probably lasted 10 years!

The only potential issue you might have is if the electric water pump dies - which will happen at some point, but their life-span seems pretty random so hopefully yours will be OK.
