Hey guys,

Recently purchased a Z4 and really loving it, however I’ve become aware of an oil leak… typical.

I’d love some guidance on what you guys think this could be, as I think the oil cap doesn’t sit right, and the Cam Gasket is pretty old..

Thanks

If you mean all the muck across the front then that is pretty common. It's getting past the vanos solenoid seals.
I think you can just buy new seals. Undo the retaining clips and the solenoids pull out.
Get the plugs all cleaned up with contact cleaner too, before the oil gets into them.

Thanks man,

I'll do a bit of digging into this and get them cleaned up, not so clear from the pictures but im not sure the Rocker cover is fully seated.

Tried getting it back into place but it doesn't really want to, unsure if you can see that in this image, any ideas?

That top plastic piece is only a cover. It should pop off so you can see the actual top cover better and assess how well the gasket is seated.

I reckon it’s the cover only too. If the rocker cover wasn’t properly seated you would be in a whole world of oil and other issues too. If the rocker cover gasket is as chunky as the M54 (6 cylinder), you can expect it to bulge out a bit in places.

Give everywhere a good clean first and then go from there...as ive had where someone has been heavy handed on topping up the oil and its gone everywhere.
