Oil Issue

I can't seem to check my oil. I've attached an image but it just acts like it is checking, will do this for maybe 5 minutes but it never gives a read out. I've tried while driving, parked, ran for 20+ minutes....nothing seems to give a read out. I now have a leak and no way to know how much oil I actually need. Please help!

A code reader may be able to tell you if the thermal oil level sensor is playing up.
If you have a leak, then I can only suggest you do an oil change. Whilst it's empty, fix the leak and fit a new oil level sensor.
 
The oil leak is simply stripped threads as I just changed the oil. I have a fairly expensive obd reader. What am I trying to find?
