Went to do my first weekly check on the car and saw in the book that the recommended oil is 10-60 which I've never heard of before. Is this what you are all using as I still have 5-40 left from the old car.

'Castrol Edge 10w60 for M Engines' is what the car should have in it.

There are other manufacturer's that make equally suitable 10w60 oil, but I only buy the proper stuff when it's on offer so can afford to stick to it for my 6-7,000 mile interim changes.

BMW went to 10W60 in 2002 or so on the S54 and other ///M engines due to big-end bearing damage when using 5W30 or 5W40 synthetics and operating the engine near the red line.
