Okay so it seems i tend to ask obscure questions that no one can answer but maybe this one will be different :-)

Is Bosch oil filter P7003 the correct one for my M54 3.0 from Oct 2004? The centre hole is much smaller than the holder and i can't get it to fit..
 
If the inner diameter is 42-43mm then it's the same as the OE BMW one (p/n 11427512300).

But I've seen some filters (with the same BMW cross-reference) with a narrower opening due to a thicker collar at the top & bottom of the hole.

Cheers, Yes, the P7003 measures 38mm on both ends. Its covered in oil now so i guess I can't take it back - i'll try and trim it or something!
 
On most good sites you enter your reg number and it highlights parts that fit your car. Never had a problem with that.
 
Eurocar parts sold me the filter that doesn't fit using that exact method. A Google search with the BMW part number brings up numerous other "good sites" that lists the exact same filter that doesn't fit.
