Oil Consumption

Hi folks

Quick question for folks on Oil Consumption

I do notice that there a puff of white smoke out the exhausts when I hit the throttle stationary.

The car had a service and an oil change about 2100 miles ago and for the last hundred miles or so it was telling me to top up when I switched it off (yellow light). Today whilst driving the top up light came on so I went and got some 0W/30.

I let it cool down and dipped it and the oil level was a little below the bottom notch. Put the full litre in it and the oil level is now back between the notches.

I'm not exactly an easy driver and do 'horse' the car around a fair bit (i've only had it a while so still playing with it)

Can anyone else share their oil consumption experience? Should I be concerned?

Thanks!

In the first bit of usage you will need to top off fairly regularly. I believe that if you routinely accelerate using the full rpms (going to the redline) that will also cause a little more oil to burn.

I don't know about the white smoke, I've never noticed it myself on other peoples Z4's. If the smoke was part of the oil it should have a bluish tint.

Dont worry about white 'smoke' when the car is relatively cold. Its just water vapour (by-product of combustion) that is condensing in a cold exhaust.

Remember you should check the oil 10 or so minutes after engine switch off for the most accurate reading. Topping up after 2100 miles is around what mine uses :)

So far mine has used about 0.5l in 5000 miles.

I do generally do shorter faster journeys, so lots of heat cycles for not that much actual mileage once warm, and when it is warm it'll be driven briskly etc...

I think that is about normal for a normal mixed usage.
