Oil consumption 2,5SI -06

Hi!
Im new here :)
I used to drive motorcycles, but im gonna "convert" to cab.
It seems to me like the 2,5Si engine should be what i want, with maunal gear.
Im about to buy me one Z4 with this engine. I just called the seller, and he said it will burn between 1 to 2l of oil pr 15000km.
Is this normal for this engines, or does it sound to much?
140 000km.

Here it is:

Hi and welcome to the forum. I knew cars were expensive in Norway (had family living in Trondheim for a few years) but when I converted that 2.5si price my eyes watered  .
Anyway, regarding oil use - have a read of this forum post:

It seems there is no 100% definite answer, but 1 to 2l per 15,000km seems actually a lot lower than many of other owners' Z4s (bear in mind the figures in this forum are usually miles not Km). Unless you're planning on doing high annual mileage in it, I wouldn't worry about those figures, and just plan on changing the oil regularly (yearly, or 18 months, 2 years etc). I prefer to change oil based on time, not distance travelled as mine is a low use vehicle.
Good luck with the purchase if you go ahead with it. Interesting it was the only 2.5si in Norway in 2006 - does that mean most people bought something else (e.g. 3Si, Z4M)?

Just had a good look at the photos - I've never seen that storage box accessory that goes on the boot. Interesting, but not something I'd like.
Oh, and the hard top is a very good accessory to have (especially if planning on driving it in Norway winter  ) - very expensive to buy now if you had to.

Yes they are full of taxes over here, and they charge upon power and CO emissions and price. I dont realy know if there are more smaler engines, but i think so. Im gonna be very "careful" with it. Im gonna change it as pr manual, and with Castrol, and measure it often until i got a picture on how much it consum. Il guess on german trips it will burn some more :D

PS: i like your wheels..whats the name?

I had an insight into taxes in Scandinavia on a business trip to Denmark in 2009 - ouch. :o

IIRC In the facelift era of E85s there were two 2.5 models, a 2.5 and a 2.5Si like this one but emissions were virtually the same (and both were certainly in the same tax band as the 3.0Si in the UK).

Oil wise my first Coupe didn't use a litre in 8,000 miles (or about 13,000 km). My current Coupe has used 1 litre in 3,500 miles (or 5,000 km) but BMW seem to say 1 litre per 1,000 miles isn't excessive so I can live with that.

I hope you can find one you like!

I strongly recommend you do not follow the BMW service guides, they have been written with an eye to minimising any of the free servicing BMW is liable for during the new car ownership period. 15,000km between oil changes, yeah right.... :x . There are many many forum posts about this sudden magical extension of the life of oils, coolants, lubricants etc (according to BMW) on this site and others. There are guides that give a more realistic servicing schedule for your BMW and I would advise you check them out.
Mind you, even BMW's servicing schedule is better than none at all. I have a friend with an MGB Roadster who has had it for about 7 years, never changed the oil as he can't see why he should since he hasn't done many miles in it (sigh.... :( )
I'm not a big fan of my wheels, but they came with the car and I haven't been able to replace them with what I want yet (style 224's).
I think they are Style 285.

So £21000 for a 2006 Z4 in Norway ? Buy one over here for £6000. The steering wheel will be on the wrong side but will be much cheaper assuming they don't charge heavily to register it.

I totaly agree, i did not know it was 15000km,thats too much and will pollute the oil, grinding the bearings and give a weaker oil film strengt!
And that i realy dont want!
Im so excited about this car!
Im gonna travel to Haugesund 10 february and buy it then if its nothing wrong with it.
IT looks like i want it! The 2.5Si second generation, and no sport chassis. I had sport chassis and chairs on my Z3, it was a pain in the ass on long trips :o
My BMW K1300S was waaaay better, but i think the mc period is gone afther 30 years, but il keep my motocrosser!

Hi!
Iv checked the taxes from Germany, its awful!
From UK its better, but i cant do shifts by my left! :-D

Have owned my 2.5si since early September, and check my oil on the display regularly. It read up to the max up until the start of Jan, and then it dropped down a block after a 3hr right foot heavy journey. Just as I was leaving to get a 1L bottle of oil for top ups the other day it was showing the up to the max.

Makes me wonder if the car was anticipating more right foot action, or if I am between the two 'blocks' of oil. Bring back the dipstick I say

Good luck with the purchase! :driving:

Here it is, with the rack :)
I also have the suitcase that fits and is named Z4.
I bought it and very satisfied!
