Oil check issue

Hi all,

After having the rocker cover gasket replaced and wondering if the previous leak had affected the oil level much, I noticed when pressing the button on the dash to bring up the oil level nothing happens.

Obviously with no dipstick on mine, this concerns me. Is there another way to check?

You do know that the car must reach normal operating temp before the electronic dipstick will work? :?

Yep! Was driving for 1+ hour yesterday and still nothing happening :thumbsdown:

Was the gauge working before you had the work carried out?

Embarrassingly I’m not sure. Had the car since July and in that time didn’t think about checking oil level as it had a service just before I bought it!

Could be a faulty sensor I suppose, they're not overly expensive to replace.
Have a read of this as well if you're a bit in the dark as to how it all works

Thanks for sharing, some really useful info here.

Unfortunately with mine the “clock” symbol doesn’t even show, indicating there is no effect of me pressing the button

So could be something else then. Almost certainly, somebody else has had the same issues, so the more info on the symptoms of the fault you can put out here, the better.

So yesterday after a drive the oil light came on. Again, I’ve still found no way to check the oil, given the fact that pressing the button on the dash has no effect.

From what I have read, when the oil light comes on, it required 1L of oil to top it up. Can anyone confirm this is correct or not?

To save any confusion & wrong actions I’d drain the oil & refill with the correct amount. Then get the level sensor fixed

Perhaps I’m mistaken (often am), but shouldn’t the screen light up with the rest of the cluster? At least showing the odometer and whatever field you’ve selected below (time/temp/range/etc). So just to rule out: the screen in the speedometer is on when the car is switched on?

Yes I should have specified, the picture was taken as the ignition was switched off as this is when the oil light is illuminated (does not appear whilst driving).

The other cluster functions work correctly.

Usually, every two to three thousand miles, when I switch the engine off, there is a loud once only beep, and the oil can icon comes on as you have shown. So then I know I have to add a litre of oil as soon as I can, but definitely before doing another 250 miles (I read somewhere) which is more than most peoples daily commute I think is the reasoning.
Anyway, if I drop the 1 litre in before going to work the next day, I don't bother checking the level until I'm just about arriving back home in the evening, by which time the car has done 25 miles.
I press the RHS button (I think!) between the dials and I see a graphic of four or five blocks building, resetting, building, resttting, building.....until it hopefully stops on all the blocks showing and the lettering "OK!" as well.
So I'm assuming none of this block building buisiness is working on your display.
But the oil icon coming on seems to show that the oil sensor is working.
Does the other button (S/R on the left) work? This resets the trip counter and I think you use it to reset the clock on the dash when the clocks go back.
Another job which I will probably get round to doing in a month or two
Just wondering if it could be a fault related to the small orange lettered display, or the buttons connecting to it.
